Abstract

Collisions showcases site-responsive installation, drawing, and assemblage sculptures that combine the use of emerging digital processes and materials with traditional processes and materials. I am developing my own combinations of their use through meditative, laborious, and rhythmic creation.

My work challenges the associations that come with the perceived use of construction and labor materials.[1] I work with found objects and materials from my surroundings to recontextualize and transform their implications from something mundane and industrial to something explorative, expressive, and personal.

The commitment to a laborious and site-responsive methodology links my work to minimalist and process art movements, and artists such as Tara Donovan, Richard Serra, and Robert Irwin.

The work emphasizes an aesthetic shift for the viewer as they move around and approach the work. This shifting perspective becomes a vital element in the space for curiosity and reflection.

[1] Objects and materials include industrially created porcelain tiles, found earthenware ceramic, Tyvek, concrete, stained epoxy, and steel.
